- The road team won each of the last two league meetings between the clubs last season. The Revolution won 5-3 on May 17 at PPL Park; Union returned the favor with a 3-1 win at Gillette Stadium on June 28.
- The teams also played a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal last season, Union with a 2-0 victory in Chester.
